Seeded #1, they confirmed the Vegas odds and won it all. Juan Arraya and Jon Lubow came to Long Island with a different mind set. Last year they made it to the semis and went down to the hands of Johan Du Randt and Mark Parsons. Lubow was heard saying: “If I knew they would play together this year I would have tried harder.” This time around he did try harder.
The 2012 Long Island Champs defeated Gaffney-Hissey in the 16s by 6-4, 6-2. Then it was the turn of Cosimano-LeFevre and a 6-4 victory in the third. In the semis, they faced 2012 National Champ Drew Broderick and Brad Easterbrook. A 6-4, 7-5 win after saving 4 set points in the second had them ready for what it was yet to come.
On the other side of the draw, two young lads from Stamford, Connecticut made their breakthrough in an NRT as a team. Sebastian Bredberg, who just recently won his first NRT in Rochester, was ready but his partner George Wilkinson had no experience past the quarter finals. In the end George played like a vetaran.
Sebbe and George beat Falatek-Najdek in the qrtrs 6-4, 6-2 to face a team that had pretty much dominated them every time they played before: Caldwell-Cordish. The Greenburgh players were ready to fight and won 6-3, 6-2. It as now time to play versus the #1 seeds.
In the final, both teams had multiple chances to win games, break serves and/or hold but it was Arraya-Lubow who came on top with a 7-6, 7-6 win.
The B Draw was won by Tom Kratky and Lawrence Garinger, another Fairfield County team, with their win over Charles Reilly and Pablo Sosa by 6-3, 6-4. This was Kratky’s second B Tournament win in a row. Two weeks ago him together with partner Ian Lindsay dominated the Sound Shore Invitational B Draw. Rumors heard in the hut say that it is time for Kratky to lose his “amateur” status. *In 2011 Kratky also won the Patterson Club Open B Draw.
