For the ones who complaint about bad draws, just ask Sandra Birch-Krusos and Kerri Delmonico what they thought about theirs at the Long Island Invitational. On their quest to win it all they defeated the #1, #4, and #3 teams in the country. It doesn’t get any harder than that!

Sandra and Kerri began their quest with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Susan Rudd and Wendy Yang. Then it was the turn of  Bobo Delaney and Tonia Mangan. It was another two sets win by 6-3, 6-2. In the quarters they faced #1 in the Nation Cynthia Dardis and Amy Shay. Sandra and Kerri don’t usually play together but it made no difference, they cruised with a 6-4, 6-2 win and were now in the final 4.

The semis was definitely their hardest match of the tournament. A 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (8) win over Kerith Flynn and Sue Tarzian deposited them in the finals versus Ana Brzova and Viki Stoklasova.

Sandra, a three-time NCCA tennis Champion at Stanford, and Kerri, a former National Champ and definitely one of the most versatile women players out there, knew that Viki and Ana were going to be a very tough team to beat. A 1-4 start did not discourage them. They won 7 games in a row and controlled the pace of the match from that point on. The final score was a close 6-4, 6-4.
