Scott Kahler and Matt Riva took home the West Penn Championship and made it 2 wins in as many tournaments. The #2 seeds made it to the finals without dropping a set, winning their quarterfinal (over Scott McFaden and Dan Mott) and semifinal (over Denny English and Thaddeus Reed) by identical scores of 6-0, 6-4. In the finals they overcame fellow Pittsburghers Ajay Khurana and Mike Wagner 6-3, 6-3.

The 5th seeded team of Khurana-Wagner was able to reach the finals by earning a quarterfinal win over 4th seeded Doug Jones and Eric Miller 6-4, 6-3. In the semifinals they took on the top seeds and defending champions Brett Engelsberg and Jeff McMaster. At set point in the 1st set tie-breaker, McMaster popped his calf muscle. Engelsberg-McMaster won the next point to take the set, but with Khurana-Wagner leading 4-1 in the 2nd set, the top seeds pulled out due to the injury. As a result, Khurana-Wagner reached their 1st NRT final.

In the women’s draw, the Pittsburgh duo of Kelly Fischer and Jessica Guyaux captured the West Penn title, defeating Janet Mazzola and Ann Turner in the finals. For Fischer-Guyaux, it was their 6th time winning the Pittsburgh tournament.
