Mother Nature has wreaked havoc on the WPTL first semester schedule. 5 weeks out of 7 should have been completed by now, but few teams have played the full 5, with most teams playing 4 and some even having only played 3. That being said, the division races for promotion and demotion are starting to become more clearly defined. To check all stats and stadings click HERE.

Division 1
New York Athletic Club 1 sits atop d1 with a 1 game lead, after beating Manursing Island Club 1 3-2. Of note from this match was the one spot, with the number 2 team in the country, Juan Arraya and Lennert Jonason facing off against Jared Palmer and Mike Cochrane. For the second time this semester in league play, the number 2 team in the country found themselves in a dog fight, but again were able to come out on top, by a score of 7-5 in the third set. Also notable, was the 2 spot here, where Marco Grangeiro and JP Johnson upset (whether a true upset is debatable) Mark Parsons and Steve Baird. The loss puts MIC 1 in second place followed by a number of teams bunched in the middle. Two of those teams, Greenburgh 1 and Country Club of Westchester 1, battled Tuesday night with CCW coming out on top 3-2. The other two matches in division 1 were cancelled due to weather. The race for demotion here looks like Bronxville 3 vs. Flint Park 1. Each team has a lot of matches to make up.

Division 2
Siwanoy Country Club 1 is in the lead in division 2, but has played one more match than the second place Fox Meadow 1. SCC 1 beat Larchmont Yacht Club 1 3-2 and Fox Meadow 1 swept Sleepy Hollow Village 1 5-0. In fourth place in d2 is Bronxville Village 2, but they have only completed 3 matches, so anything could happen in this division. BV2 was rained out(fogged out) in their match Tuesday night. The final match in this division was also cancelled.

Division 3
Similar to d2, Century Country Club is in the lead with 19 points, but has played one more match than second place Shenorock. Century lost to Wykagyl 1 3-2 and Shenorock beat Larchmont Yacht Club 2 4-1. Shenorock has only lost 2 matches out of 20 thus far. New York Athletic Club 3 is also in the hunt for division champ after a 5-0 sweep of Pelham Country Club 2. PCC 2 is in last place in this division with Larchmont Shore Club in second to last. Wykagyl 1 is also hanging around near the top with 14 points and only 4 matches having been played. The final match in this division was cancelled Tuesday night.

Division 4
Beach Point Club 1 remains in first in division 4, but the race has certainly tightened after Manursing Isalnd Club 2 beat BPC 1 by a score of 3-2. That puts MIC 2 is second place, despite having only played 4 matches. The cross town rivalry of Bronxville Village 4 and Bronxville Field Club 1 saw BFC 1 come out victorious 3-2. Both teams are now tied for third place with 13 points each. Elsewhere, Ardsley Country Club 1 beat New York Athletic Club 3 by a score of 3-2. The final match in this division was cancelled.

This past weekend again saw WPTL players perform well in another tournament. This time it was the Long Island Invitational, and both the open and B tournaments saw WPTL players in the winner’s circle. The B’s saw Tom Kratky and Larry Garinger, both WPTL players, crowned as winners. The open saw Juan Arraya, WPTL player, and Jon Lubow beat two WPTL players in Sebastian Bredberg and George Wilkinson in a well played 7-6, 7-6 final.
