The Top Six Results

Waynesborough traveled all of 2 miles North to complete their season on a winning note and prepare for the play-offs, while Aronimink was looking to revenge their match with WCC from earlier in the season and keep their 3 match win streak alive. Unfortunatley for the Mink, the stomach bug caught up with Brendan Kirk, throwing their line-up into a state of chaos and WCC completed a sweep of courts, dropping only 1 set in the process. The match had no consequences for either team, as their seeds were set last week for the year ending play-off with WCC a #1 seed and Aronimink a #3 seed.

Late into the evening, Drew Friel stated something quite controversial, “I think Captain Safford may be the most overrated captain in the league! It appears he picks 8 names out of a hat and throws them on the court and his players seem to do the rest. He is the Phil Jackson of MAPTA Interclub.”

Over at Wallingford, the little W took down P-Country 3 courts to one. On Court 1, “The Greatest Cage Show on Earth” team of the Nowlan’s lost all three sets by a score of 7-5 to Mike Furman and Jeff Shrager in a match that nearly ended past the strike of midnight. Wallingford was a lock for the #2 seed next week, and with the results of this weeks matches, P-Country earned the #4 seed.

Martins-1 and Greenville had a barn-burner as both teams left the hut and went to bed thinking that the match ended in a dead tie. Only once sobriety caught up with the players and re-added the score, the math came out with Martins winning by a total of one game giving Martins an all important home court advantage in the first round and hopefully being able to display their newly built fourth court.

Final Top Six Standings
Waynesborough 30 points
Wallingford 26 points
Aronimink 21 points
Martins-1 19 points (4th place via head to head tie-breaker)
P-Country 19 points
Greenville 18 points

The Bottom Six Results

Merion won their fourth out of the last five to defeat Kennett and also earned the 7th seed in the play-offs. This renewed effort from this squad will put the fear in the play-offs for anyone that has to compete against them. Their first match will be against Wallinford in the play-offs.

Overbrook won their fourth in a row this week over Vic Mead and earned the 8th seed in the play-offs starting next Thursday. They will take on the #1 seed Waynesborough a team that they match up very well with and have upset in prior seasons.

P-Cricket also won four of their last five matches and defeated Martins-2 this week but comes up 2 points shy of earning a spot in the play-offs. Martins-2 will need to regroup next season as they dropped 4 out of their last five matches against the bottom six competition.

Final Bottom Six Standings
Merion – 20 points
Overbrook – 19 points
P-Cricket – 17 points
Martins2 – 14 points
Vic Mead – 9 points
Kennett – 9 points
