Small draw, one great location and lots of action at the Men’s Connecticut Classic. This time it was the time for Anton Mavrin and Patricio Misitrano who went 4-0 without dropping a set and won this National Ranking Tournament in impressive fashion.
The 2012 Champs got through the first two matches without any majors threats. In the semis they faced defending champ Jerry Albrikes and Marc Porter. After winning the first set 6-3, Mavrin-Misitrano found themselves 4-0 down and things looked like the match was going to be decided in the third set. However the #2 seeds had something else in mind. They won the last six games of the match and were now in the final.
The second semis featured Rob Pierce and Todd Hiscox versus the Cinderella of the tournament, Nick Mazzarese and John Hughes. The two youngsters beat Bostrom-Vidal in the first round after being matchpoint down in the second set. They later took #1 seeds Karl Levanat and Faycal Rhazali 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. In the end Hiscox-Pierce prevailed by scores of 7-5, 6-3.
Everyone gathered to watch the final match and the tension was mounting. However, 40 minutes later everything was over. Anton could not miss a drive even if he tried. His two handed backhand was absolutely on fire and Hiscox-Pierce had a tough time handling his pace. Mavrin-Misitrano won 6-1, 6-0 in what was their best match of the tournament.
