For third year in a row a non sedeed team comes up on top at the Women’s Atlantic Classic. Can we really call Bobo Delaney and Kerri Delmonico a dark horse team or a Cinderella story? Absolutely not. Bob and Kerri have won multiple national tournament throughout their career. They even won the Mixed Nationals last season. Bob won the Open draw with Steve DeRose while Kerri won the Husband-Wife with hubbie Mike Stulac.
Bobo and Kerri cruised through the early rounds until they faced Laurie Hissey and Cooey Lyon in the semis. Although the 6-4, 6-3 win was a not that close, it helped them get ready for the final match. On the other side of the draw Judy Takach and Andrea Noyes had two great wins. They beat 2011 Runner-ups at Nationals Liz Jaffe and Lisa Rudolph in the quarterfinals to later take #1 seed and APTA’s #2 Cynthia Dardis and Amy Shay 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
The final match was played with a great atmosphere as the rock band hired by Tournament Director Drew Broderick was rocking on during their match. The music didn’t seem to bother Bobo and Kerri. They started off great and won the first set 6-2. After dropping the only set of the tournament 6-4, they came back and closed off the match with a convincing 6-2 in the third set.
A team to watch this season is Ana Brzova and Viktoria Stoklasova. Viktoria was playing in her first women’s national tournament. They lost 6-4, 6-4 to Dardis-Shay and later beat Jaffe-Rudolh in the Quarters Reprieve. Ana won the Classic last season with formar partner Lauren Cash.
Other finals include:
