Wee Burn Country Club, the largest platform tennis facility in New England, was the perfect location for the USPTA to run the first ever Platform Tennis Specialty Course.

This continuing education course, ran simultaneously with three other courses in the New England region, was perfect for the new and not so experienced paddle pros. The name said it all: Essentials of Platform Tennis.

Among the attendees was Tennis Hall of Fame Gigi Fernandez. Just like Gigi, most of the tennis professionals in attendance were interested in learning more about the sport and how it can help their careers.

Topics covered during the 4-hours workshop included topics such as equipment, positioning, strategy, teaching methods, programming and basic knowledge of court maintenance.

The course was taught by paddletimes.com founder Patricio Misitrano and Wee Burn Director of Platform Tennis Anton Mavrin. A former FCPTL Board member, the second largest platform tennis league in the country, Misitrano now leads the APTA’s Tournaments Super Committee and was the main force behind the launch of the Grand Prix Series, the “Grand Slams” of paddle. Mavrin runs all junior and adult programs at Wee Burn, New England’s busiest a platform tennis program with over 400 participants.
