The WPTL wrapped up the second semester and the year in all divisions and the only remaining question to be answered is who will win the division 1 playoff. That playoff features Manursing Island Club 1, Greenburgh 1, New York Athletic Club 1 and Bronxville Village 1 and will be played tonight at the Bronxville Village courts and NYAC.
Division 1
GB1 finished the regular season as division champs for the 5th time in a row with a total of 39.5 points. Tied with GB1 was MIC1 but the head to head gave the team captains by Peter Dampf the title. On the demotion side, Orienta Beach Club 1 suffered the downgrade after finishing barely short of Bronxville Village 2 and Westchester Country Club 1. This fall will be the first time in recent memory that OBC 1 will not be in d1.
Division 2
In a major comeback for the second semester, Bronxville Village 3 won the second semester and goes back up to division 1 after spending the winter session in division 2. This sets up an unprecedented situation in the WPTL. There will now be three teams in d1 from the same town, Bronxville Village. Perhaps we should change the name of the league to the BVPTL, or Bronxville Village Platform Tennis league from the WPTL. BV3 nosed out Shenorock in the last week, although Shenorock won the whole season with a total of 38 points. On the other end, Scarsdale Village 1 suffered the demotion.
Division 3
Century Country Club won D3, but barely. They nosed out Wykagyl Country Club 1 by a point and Manusrsing Island Club 2 by two points. MIC 2 won the year with a total of 39 points. Larchmont Shore Club 1 suffered the demotion after losing the head to head tie breaker to Pelham Country Club 1.
Division 4
The scores remain incomplete in D4 so we will wait for the scores to be entered. Not sure why it is taking so long, Considine? Bueller? Buelller? Bueller…
There should be some great paddle tonight with the D1 playoffs. The Playoffs will feature many players who just finished playing in the nationals, including Mark Parsons who won the nationals with partner Johan du Randt. The semifinals will be at Bronxville and NYAC with the finals at NYAC for anyone looking to watch.
