Week 3 saw the races for first and worst become more clearly defined in each division.  The point total I will reference will be for the second half only, for a more detailed explanation of the season division winners, please see last week’s column.  Week 3 results can be found here.

Division 1
New York Athletic Club is now in a tie for first place with 10 points, after a 3-2 victory over Manursing.  Manursing won at the 1 spot, but it was a much tighter match than last half, when Manursing won convincingly.  Tied with NYAC, is Westchester Country Club, after an impressive 4-1 victory overFlintPark.  Right behind the leaders are Greenburgh and Bronxville Village 1 with 9 points each. Greenburgh beat Orienta Beach Club 4-1, with the only loss coming at the 1 spot, while BV1 gave a pounding to Fox Meadow, 5-0.

Division 2
Bronxville Village 3 and Pelham Country Club remain locked in first place with 11 points each, after both winning 3-2.  BV3 bested a tough Sleepy Hollow Village Team, and PCC nosed out Wykagyl.  The amazing resurgence of the PCC team from the first semester, where they almost went down, has people wondering what accounts for the turn around.  Have there been any Ben Stein sightings?  From what I understand, he is now a d1 player for NYAC1.  Elsewhere, Bronxville Village 2 beat Larchmont Yacht Club 1, 3-2, and d2 newcomer Scarsdale Village beat Scarsdale Golf Club, also 3-2.

Division 3
D3 saw division leader, and d3 newcomer Siwanoy Country Club playing another d3 newcomer, and second place team, Shenorock.  Last semester SCC was in d2 and Shenorock was in d4.  So, one would think, this would be relatively one sided with SCCwinning easily.  However, upstart Shenorock got the victory, 3-2, and remains on a mission to move up.  Tied for second with Shenorock is Greenburgh2, also with 9 points, after a 5-0 thumping of Century Country Club.  Orienta Beach Club2 nosed out Pelham Country Club 2, 3-2 and the final match of d3 had New York Athletic Club 2 besting Larchmont Yacht Club 2, also by 3-2.

Division 4
The rich got richer in d4 as Larchmont Shore Club got another sweep, this time over Wykagyl2, and has the highest score of any team in the top 4 divisions with 13. White Plains1 also continued their winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Bronxville Field Club, and is in second place with 11 points.  Ardsley Country Club is right behind with 10 points, after a 3-2 victory over Beach Point.  On the other end of the spectrum, New York Athletic Club 3 beat Bronxville Village 4, 3-2, and both teams are locked at 5 points each.

On a side note, many WPTL players will be playing in tournaments this weekend. The big one is in Bean town and is the Boston National Open. This is a loaded draw, with National Champs Mark Parsons and Mike Stulac seeded 1 and 2011 nationals runner up Johan DuRandt and Matt Porter seeded 2. My prediction here is Parsons/Stulac avenge their Sound hore loss and beat DuRandt/Porter in finals. The second tournament is the Jansen in Bronxville, which is a mixed tournament. Here, I predict Brian O’Connor and his bride to be to come out the winner.
