A couple of months ago, right after the end of the 13-14 season, Mark Parson and Juan Arraya had an idea: Create the Premier Paddle League (PPL). What does that mean? That the very top men and women players in the tri-state area will be going face to face in this all-star league.
64 male players have made the cut in this invite-only league. 24 female players have also made the cut in the women’s division.
The league will be an APTA league, which means that all players will have to pay for APTA membership dues (shouldn’t this be the case with all leagues anyway?). The PPL is a non for profit league. All money collected for this league will go back to the league.
How does this new PPL work?
- The PPL will take place on Sunday nights.
- Matches will start at 7:00 pm or 7:30 pm.
- In order to avoid conflicts with NRT tournaments, the league schedule will be done around the major APTA tournaments.
- Matches will start late October.
- There will be a playoff at the end of the season for the top 4 teams.
- Matches will be played primarily in Westchester county and southern Connecticut.
Besides the fact that the PPL will have the most number of top 20 players in the world, a new idea to paddle leagues is the draft (like in fantasy football) that will take place at the beginning of the season.
