The reformulated divisions with their respective promotions and demotions got off to the second half start Tuesday night under perfect paddle weather conditions. As usual all stats can be found HERE.
Division 1
New entrant Bronxville 2 is tied with Manursing 1 in the second place with 27 points for the year. Although scores from its 5-0 win vs Bronxville 3 were not recorded, Greenburgh is in the lead with 28 points. How is BV2 that high in D1? This is due to the fact that they earned 25 points in division 2 in the fall semester and that carries over to the second half in d1. Whether that makes any sense at all I will leave to the reader.
In their debut week in d1, BV2 did better than anyone would have expected, scoring a respectable 2-3 loss to the Country Club of Westchester. Particularly unexpected, was the victory BV2 notched at the 1 line, in straight sets no less. Manursing 1 also lost 2-3 in their first match of the second half to Greenburgh 1. All matches went two sets with the exception of the 3 line where GB1 outlasted M1 in a 3 setter, which turned out to be the difference in this match between two likely playoff participants.
New York Athletic Club 1 beat Orienta Beach Club 1, 4-1 with their only loss coming at the 5 line in a three setter. In the final match of d1, Bronxville 1 beat Flint Park, 3-1, with one match still to be played.
Division 2
Shenorock leads division 2 with 31 points, again with 28 of those points earned in division 3 in the first half. In their D2 debut, they scored a 3-2 victory over a tough second place Fox Meadow 1 team. This match featured a victory at the 1 line for FM 1 with Gary Newman and “Monty” besting Geoff Cochrane and “KIKI” in what has to be considered an upset. In other action, Sleepy Hollow Village beat Scarsdale Golf club 1, 3-2 with SGC1 getting a tough 3 set victory at the 1 line.
Bronxville Village 3 suffered the opposite treatment than BV2, in that after getting chewed up in d1 in the fall, those 5 points they earned in d1 carry over to D2 in the second half and leave them in the cellar in d2. They came out fighting in D2 however, with a 4-1 victory over Larchmont Yacht Club 1. The last match of D2 has yet to be recorded in the score book.
Division 3
Manursing 2 sits atop D3 with 32 points(asterisk) after a 2-3 loss to Century Country Club. M2 lost at the 1,2, and 3 spots, which they may not have done collectively in the whole first half combined. This attests to the big difference between D3 and D4, as M2 won d4 in the fall and won the promotion to D3. Wykagyl Country Club 1 is in second place in d3 after a 4-1 victory over third place Greenburgh 2. Newly demoted Pelham Country Club 1 beat Larchmont Shore Club 1 by a score of 4-2, and the last match in d3 has yet to be recorded.
Division 4
Newly promoted New Rochelle Tennis Club 1 leads D4, again with the same caveat mentioned above regarding promoted teams, with 37 points. NRTC 1 debuted in d4 with a 5-0 sweep of Pelham Country Club 2. Beach Point Club is in second place after a 3-2 victory over Orienta Beach Club 2. Elsewhere, Bronxville Field Club 1 beat Ardsley Country Club 1 3-2, and the last match of d4 has yet to be recorded.
