A few weeks ago it was the turn of the Sound Shore Invitational and its online webcast of the “making” of the draw. Draws has been kind of a mystery for years but not this time. The event was broadcasted live over the Internet and was a great success. However, there are more exciting news: this coming Saturday, the Men’s Long Island Invitational will become the first platform tennis tournament in the history to be broadcasted live and online!
With back-to-back tournaments in Region 1, they are definitely taking the lead in this new online era. The Long Island Invitational will sort of be the guinea pig for 2012 Nationals. In what way? The APTA also plans to broadcast live over the Internet matches to be played at Nationals this coming March.
Tournament Director Duane Hayden talked to PaddleTimes and gave us the scoop
We want to have one, maybe two of the courts at the Hungtinton Country Club broadcasting live over the Internet.”
The field will be small but super strong. Defending champs Eastebrook-Jonason, Broderick-Moore, LeFevre-Stulac, and Du Randt-Parsons (YES, you read it correctly!) are among the top teams this weekend. Du Randt-Parsons will be playing for the first time together but will be the team to beat. Even Long Island’s own John Schmitt and Danny Rothschild will be back trying to regain their top form.
