The second half of the 2011-2012 finally came to an end Tuesday night. After a couple week interruption, the division champions have been crowned, and the promotions and demotions have been set. The only outstanding issue, is the final four playoff in D1 which will determine the champion. As usual all the stats can be found here.
Division 1
D1 wrapped up with Greenburgh 1 winning the regular season championship. The matches played were make up matches for February 14th. GB1 defeated Flint Park 4-1 and secured at least their fourth straight regular season championship. They are now the number 1 seed in the final four playoff tonight. Second place went to New York Athletic Club 1, who finished the year with a surprising 2-3 loss to Orienta Beach Club 1. NYAC 1 is the 2 seed in the playoff. With the 3-2 victory, OBC1 made sure they did not get demoted to D2. That award unfortunately went to Fox Meadow 1.
FM1 lost 3-2 to Country Club of Westchester, and finished with the division low 7 points, which sends them back to Division 2. Finishing third in the division was Bronxville Village 1. BV1 beat Manursing 1, 3-2, thereby giving M1 the fourth place spot in D1. Tonight’s playoff looks like this, GB1, the 1 seed plays M1, the 4 seed in one semifinal, and NYAC1, the 2 seed plays BV1, the 3 seed in the other semifinal. Winners play in the finals, and losers hit the keg, assuming there is a keg.
Division 2
Division 2 witnessed a first time winner and first time promoted to D1 team in Bronxville Village 3. BV3 won the championship with 34.5 points, a comfortable margin, and also won the promotion with a much closer 23-21 tally over Pelham County Club 1 in the second semester. This battle came down to the last Tuesday night and BV3 nosed out PCC1 by beating Wykagyl 1 5-0. PCC1 beat Larchmont Yacht Club 1 3-2. In other action, Scarsdale Golf Club beat Bronxville Village 2 3-2, and Sleepy Hollow Village beat Scarsdale Village 1 4-1. Wykagyl 1 is headed down to D3, after being beat barely by SV1, who managed to stay up in D2.
Division 3
Siwanoy Country Club established a lead early in the second half and never looked back. They finished the half with 28 points and made their stay in D3 as short as possible. However, the division crown for the year goes to new entrant Shenorock who nosed out SCC by one point with a total of 35.5 points. In the battle to stay up in D3, Pelham Country Club 2 beat Orienta Beach Club 2 by just one point, so OBC 2 is headed down to D4.
Division 4
Larchmont Shore Club won the division championship for the year as well as the promotion for the second half. They won the promotion pretty comfortably and remained in the lead for most of the half. On the other end, Wykagyl 2 lost the battle to stay in the division and is headed down to D5. Joining D4 next fall, will be Manursing 2, who won D5.
Predictions
In D1 I got the regular season champ correct withGB1, we will have to wait to find out if I get the playoff champ right with NYAC1, but I like my chances there. I also got the demotion right with FM1.
In D2 I got the promotion right here with BV3, despite my bias. I got the demotion wrong.
In D3 I was wrong on promotion and demotion.
In D4 I was wrong on promotion and demotion.
I will be making the trek out this weekend to Long Islandfor the nationals. I was a bit surprised to see who my partner and I have in the first round. We play some guys named Parsons and Stulac. After consulting my paddle advisors on strategy, the best advice can be summed up in this clip.
