Just like in Chicago last year, Region 5 Men’s and Women’s teams swept P-Cup play and took the title one more time.

The Women’s team ended with 21 points and finished ahead of Region 4 (18 points) and Region 1 (17 points). The Men’s team won their third title in a row. Going into the last round, they faced the home team Region 1, who needed at least four wins to finish first.

On court one Drew Eberly and Brian Uihlein took care of business and defeated Dan Rothschild and John Schmitt by 6-0, 6-4. At this point all other matches were still going on. Marco Grangeiro and David Caldwell leveled the score to 1-1 with their win over Neave-Smith.

Court #2 went to a first set tie breaker. Brian O’Connor and Devin Wakeford took the first set over Chris Struck and Ben McKnight and Region 1 was still alive. On courts #4 and #5 things were pretty close. Both matches went to a third set super tie-breaker. Overcoming a 1-5 deficit, Mark Ruppert and Rusty Wright beat Baxter-Heath 11-9. On the next court Nathan LeFevre and Brian Kline had a 5-0 lead but fell short to the hands of Mike Rahaley and Greg O’Neil. Rahaley and O’Neil clinched the win and it was all smiles for Region 5. Rahaley told PaddleTimes the key to their come back:

My Partner showed up for the last three points. That was our secret.”
