In a classic display of mixed paddle skills, top seeds Andrea Noyes and Mike Atkinson prevailed in a close 3 sets match versus second seeds Liz Jaffe and Mark Ruppert and took home the first tournament of the season. Liz and Mark came out swinging and bageled their opponents in what looked like it was going to be a short final. Andrea and Mike later on recovered and won 2nd and third sets in close tie-breakers. The final match ended up having lots of excitement with the new champions going home with the title and a “bagel.”

No dark horses, no big upsets, and no rain at all this year in Wall Township as all four top seeds reached the semis. Noyes-Atkinson beat tournament director Judy Takach and Bob Winchester in the top side of the draw by scores of 6-7, 6-0, 6-2. In the bottom half Jaffe-Ruppert beat Joanne O’Shaughnessy and Billy Browne 6-1,6-4.

All other winners were as follows:

  • Quarter Final Reprieve Tina Wein and Miguel Cobbs
  • Reprieve Tina Lum and Junius Clark
  • Consolation Cammy McFadden and BJ Paret
  • Lucky Losers Barb Rebak and Rob Rebak
